It is advertised as "chrome" and costs $30 more than the others, but it is still just plastic. If you are expecting metal, you will be disappointed. I was, but I still liked it and kept it. The knives are good quality and it is a fun addition to the kitchen.

I have to say, the stand is pretty cool. A very interesting way to display the knives. It is big... so beware if you wanted a small easy to hide thing. Then again... if you wanted something easy to hide, why would you buy something so deserving of displaying?
The knives themselves aren't that great, however. They are stainless steel... and they aren't super sharp. The small knife had some difficulty cutting a tomato. And if you leave the knives wet, they WILL show rust, or whatever it is... I'm not fluent in knife technical terms... Just be aware of these issues if you are to purchase this.

Saw this for the first time on a trip to Amsterdam, really liked the concept but it was expensive. Looked on Amazon on the return to the US and found it for a great price. The holder looks great on the kitchen counter and the knives are much better quality then I expected for the price.
All in all a good, fun purchase that also proved practicle.

I love this knife set it's art yet it's functional! I was disappointed by it not being very heavy and it being made from hollow plastic! However he looks awesome and I bought him more as an art piece anyways. The knives are ok... but nothing really really special just ok knives! Functional yes they work but if your looking for a truly functional knife block just for knives I don't recommend this one for you! If you looking for a piece of art, and conversation starter this is for you! Definitely check out the voodoo toothpick holder as well, a great addiction to the set!

Just received it yesterday. I was shocked at first as I really expected the "man" to be heavy and maybe coated in a rubbery substance (not sure why I thought this, but I did). I was wrong, he is relatively lightweight hollow plastic and if you screw him into the base too tightly, he will split at the seams of his legs. However, he still looks really cool on the counter and he is a monster and takes up much space- knives are not great, but of descent quality and should be Ok for average household uses (I have 2 $150 Wusthof knives I use anyway for serious cutting). All in all, for $69 I am satisfied with the purchase.
